Meet the LVMPD K9 Unit

The LVMPD K-9 Detail has 14 officers, including 3 sergeants, and 17 Patrol Dogs

Joshua Bitsko

Loki
Sergeant Bitsko joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in August 2000 and came to K9 as a sergeant in November of 2014.  This is his second stint in K9.  He was assigned to K9 as a handler previously.  Sergeant Bitsko is partnered with his Belgian Malinois Patrol Service Dog, Loki.

Sam Carrillo

Radar and Maggie
Officer Carrillo has been with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department since February 2001.  He joined the K9 Section in May of 2007.  Officer Carrillo has been teamed with his K9 partner, Radar, since April of 2008.  Radar is trained to find “bad guys” who run and hide from police.  He is also partnered with Rocky, a Springer Spaniel Explosive Detector Dog.

Jeff Corbett

Hunter and Lexus
Officer Corbett hired onto Metro in January 1998 and joined K9 in 2006.  He is partnered with Hunter, his Belgian Malinois Patrol Dog since 2012 and also works Willow, his Springer Spaniel Explosive Detector Dog.

Jason Dukes

Max II and Maddie
Officer Dukes has been employed with LVMPD since July 1997 and has been assigned to K9 since October 2005.  His partner, Max, is a Belgian Malinois/Shepherd mix and has been with him since 2010.  Max is also trained in cadaver and evidence detection.  Darko, his Explosive Detector Dog, is a six-year-old Dutch Shepherd.

Mel English

Roy and Rockey
Officer English came to Metro in March 1992 and is the senior handler in K9 transferring in 1997.  Officer English has been paired with Roy, a Belgian Malinois, since March 2014 and also works Bruce, his Narcotics Detector Dog.

Tom Hemsey

Thor and Maggie
Officer Hemsey joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in May 2009 and transferred to K9 in March of 2015.  Officer Hemsey is paired with his Belgian Malinois Patrol Service Dog, Thor and Maggie, his Labrador Narcotics Detector Dog.

John Jenkins

Flash and Scooby
Officer Jenkins hired onto with LVMPD in August 1996.  He joined the K9 Section in February of 2001.  Officer Jenkins is partners with Flash, a German Shepard, and Charlie, a Springer Spaniel Explosive Detector Dog.  As a member of Nevada Task Force 1 (FEMA), Officer Jenkins responded to both Hurricanes Katrina and Rita with his Search and Rescue dog, Cyril.

Jim Ledogar

Reno and Flirt
Officer Ledogar came to Metro in August 2001 and joined the K9 Section in 2006.  Officer Ledogar partners with his Patrol Service Dog, Zeus, a Belgian Malinois and Ash, his Springer Spaniel Narcotics Detector Dog.

Sean Malia

Bear and Grouse
Officer Malia has been with Metro since January 1998 and joined K9 in 2010.  He is partnered with his Patrol Service Dog, Bear, a Belgian Malinois since 2016, and Grouse, a Springer Spaniel since 2012, who is a Narcotics Detector Dog.

Ernie Morgan

Claymar and Bosco
Officer Morgan has been employed with LVMPD since January 1998.  He has worked in various assignments in patrol and the detective bureau.  Officer Morgan was assigned to K9 in August 2010.  He is partnered with Claymar for patrol duties and Salty, an Explosive Detector Dog.

Scott Murray

Beer and Taz
Officer Murray joined Metro in March 1991 and joined K9 in 2003.  He is partnered with Beer a Belgian Malinois Patrol Dog, and Basil, a Springer Spaniel Narcotics Detector Dog.

Dave Newton

Wilco and Stewie
Officer Newton hired on with Metro in August 1996 and has been assigned to K9 since August 2001.  His current partners are Basco, a Belgian Malinois, and Stewie, a Springer Spaniel, who is a Narcotics Detector Dog.

Rick Vorce

Ringo and Sadie
Officer Vorce became a police officer with Metro in February 1991 and has been in K9 since 2002.  Officer Vorce is partners with his Patrol Dog, Sarge, a Belgian Malinois and Arno, a Belgian Malinois Explosive Detector Dog.  Officer Vorce is the President of Friends for Las Vegas Police K9’s.

100% of donations go to the care of current and retired K9 Units.
